Cape Town Thing is here to help you.

How digital distribution works

Streaming and digital platforms are the new record shops. But music distribution no longer takes weeks and months. Today, digital distribution quickly gets your music on Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play and other music services. And you make money – royalties – every time someone streams or buys your music. But you can only get your music on most digital platforms like Spotify by using an artist aggregator like us.

With Cape Town Thing, not only can you quickly submit tracks for release, but there are no platform payments to maintain to receive your royalties. We take a small percentage split when your music is streamed or sold. You receive your distribution sales revenue without the platform cost.

2. We release it everywhere.
We release it everywhere. When you’ve uploaded your release, we’ll check it to make sure it adheres to the guidelines set by platforms like Apple Music & Spotify. We’ll then send it to all your chosen music stores & give you a Chad Music SmartLink so your fans can Pre-Save it before it drops.
3. You get paid
Once your release date arrives and your music’s out there, you’ll make money every time it’s streamed or downloaded. We settle distribution revenues quarterly but it's important for clients to note that we have a R2000 minimum payment requirement. This is a cumulative number across all possible releases.

Top FAQs

We are trying to be that hybrid company between DIY distribution and a label and we think this makes us refreshingly different. We care about every release we make and we will have a human for you to talk to and educate you on the distribution. DIY platforms are great but we give that little bit more in terms of a promotion plan, Spotify pitching, and playlisting to just name a few.

We think distributing with Cape Town Thing will be the start of us working together so perhaps the next EP or single will be a more traditional label contract. Not something we are promising but start with Cape Town Thing on distribution and let’s see where we end up.

We also reject all distributions where we do not have a beat licence breaking the model of distribute anything of other platforms

Music distribution in our world is the passing of your Master recording to all available streaming and audio platforms. This will be done in a compliant and high quality manner with minimum 10 day windows to give maximum chance for success. The distribution will then collect revenue that after a watermark we will pass on to clients on a quarterly basis. You will be in safe hands with Chad music and be enable you to focus on promotion and fan relationships, leaving the distribution to us.

We think our ongoing webinars are a great source for passing on this knowledge to clients. But on the distribution we will maximise master recording revenues, in addition we can pass you on to our publishing and sync partners as this is an area of missed revenue for sure on the composition part of a release. Our artist management team may also be open to consulting on strategies but we recommend all to look at merchandise, listening party ticket sales, NFT’s , crowdfunding.

With Cape Town Thing the agreements are concise and simple. We have a 90/10 agreement and an 80/20 agreement. We will help you with beat licences and other contractual hurdles that prevent a distribution that will lead to publishing and sync opportunities.

The support you receive will differ based on the 90/10 or 80/20 agreements. Please also remember unlike peers we charge no fee for the distribution so our success is based on your success. There is the Cape Town Thing shop for many additional promotional services but clients should be clear what is included and what is an extra cost.
